A Patients Perspective: Maryann Kelly
I first saw Dr. Chung during the 3rd week of May, 2021 regarding prolonged disruptive lower back pain impacting daily living activities and severely limiting sleep. I also included a list of other secondary issues on the new patient intake form. My goal, besides reducing pain at a root cause level, was to be able to keep my commitments to compete in 3 Ballroom Dance Competitions scheduled during late June; during the 2nd week of August; and during the 3rd week of August. My plan for each competition was to do approximately 115 dances/heats across the Ballroom Dance types of Smooth, International Standard, and Rhythm which involves 17 dances as listed below. Besides reaping many health benefits from Ballroom Dancing, it also fuels my work and most importantly, it helps to support a non-profit, Ballroom Dancing For A Better U, which serves those with cognitive, physical, social, and/or mental special needs.
I was immediately impressed during the initial visit as not only was my pain dramatically reduced, but several other widely diverse issues from head to toe were also addressed ranging from dry eye to migraines as a couple of examples. Dr. Chung thoroughly explained the respective treatment plans for each condition. My work experience includes 8 years in mainstream clinical roles; 33 years in global corporate positions; and more recently, during the last several years I work in a holistic capacity. Consequently, these diverse experiences opened my mind to options and provided me with context regarding mainstream, non-mainstream, and holistic approaches towards symptoms and illnesses. I was amazed at the thoroughness and efficiency in which Dr. Chung examined me; diagnosed the diverse issues; discussed root cause along with proposed treatment options; set expectations; and that the agreed treatments were then actually done! Dr. Chung and his team are exemplary professionals providing invaluable services to their patients.
To my delight, I was not only able to fully compete as planned in all 3 Ballroom Competitions which happened so soon after just beginning the recommended treatment regimen, but I felt so well that I could excel realizing better competition results beyond my expectations. The last 2 competitions in August were one day events so my 115 dances (heats) were done in a day really testing how well I, as a 60+yr old dancer, could perform. Thanks to Dr. Chung & his team, and to my LaPierre Ballroom Dance Pro Partners, several awards were won as pictured below. Dr. Chung’s decades of applied experience in mainstream, holistic, and associated diverse modalities truly personifies how beneficial integrative medicine can be. Dr. Chung used less invasive approaches with less medications/supplements that had less potential side effects, and I realized a far better outcome so fast beyond what I could have imagined in both my daily living and in competing. The pictures below illustrate the joy of feeling and performing so well across the 17 different dances listed at the bottom. I got my life back!
